Forklift Reverse Alarm Not Working

A silent reverse alarm is a safety hazard and often a compliance failure — the cause is usually the buzzer itself, a blown fuse or the reverse switch, all inexpensive to fix.

— Reviewed by the ForkliftIQ technical team

The reverse alarm sounds when the truck selects reverse. No sound points to the buzzer, its fuse, the F/N/R switch or wiring.

Most likely causes

Failed buzzer — A dead or water-damaged buzzer makes no sound.
Blown fuse — A blown fuse cuts power to the alarm circuit.
Reverse switch fault — A bad F/N/R or reverse signal switch never triggers the alarm.

How to diagnose it

1
Verify the alarm circuit fuse is intact.
2
Select reverse and check voltage at the buzzer.
3
If no power reaches the buzzer, test the reverse signal switch.
4
If power is present but silent, fit a matching reverse buzzer.
⚠ Safety: Do not operate a forklift in areas with pedestrians while the reverse alarm or warning lights are inoperative — repair before use.
