Crown PTH50 Hydraulic Pump Rebuild — Video Guide

This resource organizes a three-video external workshop series into removal, teardown and reassembly. It is for identifying the work and preparing the correct parts and documentation; it does not replace Crown's serial-specific manual or an authorized technician.

Crown identifies the PTH 50 as a manual hand pallet truck and provides an operator manual for the model. Before service, confirm that the truck and pump match the PTH50 arrangement shown and obtain the correct parts information for the serial number.

Safety first: Unload the pallet truck, lower the forks fully, park on a level surface and secure it against movement. Do not work under raised forks. Clean spilled hydraulic oil promptly and keep dirt out of the open pump.

Plan the rebuild before disassembly

Photograph the truck data plate, pump casting, handle linkage and every external plug or pin.

Use a clean bench and trays so balls, springs, washers, snap rings and seals remain in order.

Inspect the ram, pump piston, bores, bushings and valve seats. A seal kit cannot correct severe scoring, corrosion or a cracked housing.

Compare each new seal and backup ring with the removed part before installation; do not rely on appearance alone.

Part 1 — Remove the PTH50 hydraulic unit

Part 1 shows the pump being separated from the Crown PTH50 frame: the retaining roll pin, steer-wheel area, handle connection and hydraulic-unit removal sequence.

About 1:02: the roll pin fastening the unit to the frame is removed.

About 1:23: the steer-wheel area is disassembled to free the unit.

Later in the clip: the handle and pump are separated for bench work.

Use boundary: This sequence is for the Crown PTH50 arrangement shown. Support the frame and pump before removing retaining parts, and confirm the serial-specific manual and parts drawing.

Part 2 — Disassemble and inspect the PTH50 pump

Part 2 moves to the bench. It shows removal of the ram-support bushing and seals, oil draining, valve components, the pump cylinder and release mechanism, followed by cleaning before reassembly.

0:05–2:12: the ram-support bushing, scraper seal and retaining ring are removed.

2:13–6:48: oil is drained and valve/cylinder components are taken out in sequence.

6:58–8:53: the release mechanism is stripped and the empty housing is prepared for cleaning.

Use boundary: Snap rings, springs, oil and small valve parts can release unexpectedly. Wear eye protection, control stored force, preserve component order and keep the work area clean. Do not substitute the video's tool choices for the service manual.

Part 3 — Install seals and reassemble the PTH50 pump

Part 3 shows the reverse process: seal orientation, lubrication, release-pin and pump-cylinder assembly, valve parts, oil filling and a final bench function sequence.

0:42–4:25: the ram seals, bushing, release pin and wipers are installed.

5:32–9:39: backup rings, O-rings, U-cup and pump cylinder are assembled.

9:41–14:38: valve parts, oil and the main ram are installed before the unit is prepared for refitting.

Use boundary: The seal kit named by the video is the publisher's product for the unit shown. Verify the pump revision and current kit contents independently. Use the model manual for oil type, quantity, tightening and post-repair load testing.

What the series proves—and what it does not

The footage proves the component order and handling on the PTH50 pump shown. It does not establish that every PTH50 serial number uses the same pump revision, seal kit, oil quantity or tightening method. Crown's current operator-manual page is the authoritative starting point for model documentation.

Post-repair checks

After the pump is installed, check unloaded lift, neutral travel, controlled lowering, handle return and external leakage. Keep the truck out of normal service until an authorized person completes the appropriate loaded test and confirms safe operation.
