What is in the hydraulic system
A pump (usually gear-type on counterbalance trucks) draws oil from the tank and feeds the control valve, which directs flow to the lift and tilt cylinders. Solenoid valves handle attachment functions and lowering control. Seal kits and hoses are the highest-wear items.
Diagnosing hydraulic problems
Slow or weak lifting, mast drifting down, whining pump, or oil leaks usually trace to a worn pump, a failing relief/solenoid valve, or cylinder seals. Confirm system pressure against spec before replacing the pump — many "bad pump" cases are actually a valve or seal.
